Google Docs to Markdown
Convert Google Docs exports to Markdown privately
Markdown Safe converts files downloaded from Google Docs. In Google Docs, choose File, Download, then Microsoft Word (.docx) or Web Page (.html). Drop that exported file into Markdown Safe to convert it locally.
What to expect
- Use DOCX for most Google Docs drafts.
- Use HTML when you want a web-style export.
- Google .gdoc shortcut files do not contain document content.
Common uses
- Move Google Docs drafts into Markdown documentation, GitHub, static sites, or note apps.
- Convert a local export without connecting a Google account to the converter.
- Keep document contents on your device during conversion.
Conversion limits
- You must export from Google Docs before using the converter.
- Complex comments, suggestions, drawings, and special Google Docs widgets may need manual review.
- Google Docs shortcut files are rejected because they only point back to Google Drive.
